Diving Encounters - Fall 2026

Pet Shark

This is a young nurse shark that found us and made friends. She (he) followed us through the whole dive. Even through a swim through (shown with Eric, but not shown with each of us in turn). Petting happened off camera. Eric, John, and Meg on the dive.

Long video:7:49.

Satoshi's Grave (formerly Stingray Corral) - North side - Scuba Roatan

Hawksbill turtle

This one is several years old and did not spook. Turtles can be taken by the locals so some are wary of divers.

Mazes/El Rancho - North side - Scuba Roatan

Mantis Shrimp

This is a mantis shrimp. They usually drop back into their holes when observed. Not this time. Just sitting there.

Alaina's Sandy Bottom - North side - Scuba Roatan

Arrow Blennie

This is an arrow blennie. Blennies usually hide in tiny holes in coral, but not arrow blennies. They zip around. It is unusual to catch one without having it zip. They have a characteristic loop of their tail.

Robin's Booty (Formerly One Minute East) - North side - Scuba Roatan

Jawfish

This one is a very shy fish. They hide in holes in the sand. Just a head looking around is typical or maybe nothing but hole. This one finally came out.

Alaina's Sandy Bottom - North side - Scuba Roatan

Secretary Blenny

This blenny is reaching very far out of it's hole. I didn't see what it was reaching for.

Lettuce Sea Slug

This one is very blue. Nice color you. Two clips because I hit my head on the ledge above this one.

Hagan's Hideaway (Formerly One Minute West) - North side - Scuba Roatan

Jawfish Taking Chances

This is a couple of jawfish really getting out there. They are taking chances. Then they go back into their holes, of course.

Julian's Wall - North side - Scuba Roatan

Monster Crab Walking

A large crab, 3 foot arm span, is sitting out and then walking. Big.

Green Moray Swimming

I am totally over eels poking out of their holes and barking. Swimming is essential.

Parasol Feather Worm

A worm that hangs out. Until it doesn't.

Moray Lagoon - North side - Scuba Roatan

Flat Fish

This is three flat fish. Peacock Flounder. Scrawled cowfish. Whitespottted file fish.

Peppers Point - North side - Scuba Roatan

Two Scorpion Fish

One between Land of the Giants and Alaina's Sandy Bottom and the other at Pepper's Point. Both dives within an hour of each other.
